A 45-year-old man, Gioacchino Vaccaro, dies after a street assault in Partinico

A 45-year-old man, Gioacchino Vaccaro, died at the Civico Hospital in Partinico, in the province of Palermo, after being attacked in the street by two brothers, who later turned themselves in to the Carabinieri.

The incident began in the late afternoon of Sunday, March 31, in Largo Avellone, where Vaccaro, a well-known fruit and vegetable merchant in the city, runs his business. According to initial reconstructions, the man's seventeen-year-old son had reprimanded two youths who were driving at high speed through an area frequented by families.

The two allegedly returned and attacked the boy, striking him on the head, in front of his mother. The woman immediately called her husband, who rushed to the scene. At that point, the fury of the two aggressors turned against Vaccaro, who was violently struck.

After the assault, the man returned home but soon felt unwell. Rushed to the emergency room at Civico Hospital, he died around 8:00 PM. His son was also taken to the hospital but is not in life-threatening condition.

The two alleged aggressors, after fleeing the scene of the beating, voluntarily presented themselves to the Carabinieri to give their version of the events. The investigation is being handled by the State Police, who are interviewing witnesses and gathering footage from surveillance cameras in the area, which may have recorded the assault.

The Prosecutor's Office has ordered an autopsy on the body of Gioacchino Vaccaro to determine the causes of death, which currently appear to be linked to the trauma suffered during the beating.

The entire community of Partinico is in shock, devastated by the death of a man described by everyone as a caring father and a respected worker. "It's absurd to die like this, defending one's son," friends, relatives, and neighborhood residents whisper, gathered in front of his business.

Further investigative developments and the formalization of charges against the two brothers are now awaited.
