The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), led by the vice-president of the Council of Ministers Matteo Salvini, and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), chaired by Pierluigi di Palma, are apparently evaluating the feasibility project of the airport "Mediterranean" of Agrigento, in Sicily.
"This is an economic-financial study for the construction of an airport serving the province of Agrigento and the central-southern area of Sicily, with a project that envisages a significant catchment area for a public work that is fundamental for the social relaunch -economic of the territory", say Sicilian sources from the Lega political party, according to what was reported by some local media.
The project was made by Giovanni Bologna, extraordinary commissioner of the Free Consortium of the Municipalities of Agrigento. It is a work that has been awaited for decades in the Sicilian territory. However, at the beginning of 2023 the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, had warned: "It is not enough to carry out the work if there is no money to manage it. A new airport must be accompanied by a project of certainty of financial autonomy".
