Sicilian Residents Benefit from Substantial Airfare Discounts in Regional Initiative
Sicilian Region has introduced a financially significant measure: a reduction of up to 50% in airfares for Sicilian residents.
This measure, funded with 27.5 million euros from regional resources, is focused on air connections to and from the island to Milan and Rome, with a planned duration of 13 months.
The economic contribution involves a 25% reduction in the cost of air tickets, benefiting passengers residing in the territory of the Sicilian Region. Residents will need to demonstrate their residency status to the airline (also online) or the ticket-issuing agency through self-certification at the time of purchase.
The economic contribution for residents consists of a 25% discount on the total cost of a single journey, inclusive of all taxes, fees, and additional charges invoiced by the carrier. It will be applied as follows: if the ticket for a single journey costs less than or equal to 50 euros, no discount will be applied; if the ticket for a single journey costs between 50.01 euros and 62.50 euros, the discount will be applied to bring the cost borne by the resident for the ticket to 50 euros; the reduction in the total cost of the ticket can go up to a maximum discount of 75.00 euros per single journey.
Furthermore, an additional contribution, equal to another 25% discount for a total of 50%, is provided to the following categories: residents with a disability of 67% or more, students, or residents with low income (ISEE less than 9,360 euros). This is to be applied to tickets whose total cost is higher than 50 euros.
The intervention, in its initial application, has been initiated on connections between Sicilian airports and the airports of Rome Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci" and Rome Ciampino "G. B. Pastine," as well as the airports of Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Milan/Bergamo Orio al Serio, for one-way as well as round-trip flights, for flights from December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024.
